Emily's World: A Plein Air Tribute
A series of plein air excursions will occur through April and May, when “Emily Carr” (artist and actor Molly Raher Newman) will accompany painters from throughout the Capital Regional District on visits to some of the special places where Emily enjoyed painting (the Garden at Emily Carr House, Esquimalt Lagoon, and many more), culminating in a special exhibition to take place in Metchosin May 31 and June 1.

emily & robert: a student art show
Students from Belmont, Edward Milne Community School, West Shore Centre for Learning and Training, Lester B. Pearson College of the Pacific, and Maxwell International School will take part in a special show inspired by the works and worlds of Emily Carr and Robert Bateman. Interested students should contact their Fine Arts teachers for more information and entry requirements.

GO LOCAL Fine Art and Craft Exhibition
Mothers’ Day, Sunday, May 11, 2008 at Royal Roads University — Members of the West Shore Arts Council, Juan de Fuca Arts & Crafts Guild, Stinking Fish Studio Tour and other Arts Council-affiliated groups and individuals are invited to contact the festival office concerning an opportunity to showcase their work at the Mothers’ Day Paint-in at Royal Roads University, this year celebrating the centennial of Hatley Castle.

Robert Bateman 2008 Getting to Know Calendar Contest
Writing and art

If you’re 19 years or younger, Robert Bateman is looking for your original creations of writing and art. Winning entries will be included in the 2009 Bateman Get To Know Calendar, distributed across Canada. Art submissions: any kind of art done on white paper that depicts local plant or animal species. Writing submissions: a short (40 word max.) composition focused on the environment (could even be original song lyrics!), how you think we can help protect the natural world, and what you are doing to preserve our planet.
